What makes it a good animal portrait, how to paint this wet nose and give a sparkle to these eyes?

Don't miss this opportunity to learn traditional oil painting techniques while creating a dynamic portrait of your favorite animal.

The workshop will kick off with Yelena’s demonstration on Friday. Yelena will demonstrate her technique on Saturday and Sunday, followed by plenty of time for the students to work on their animal portraits and receive one-on-one instruction time.

Please plan to attend an Artist Reception with Yelena on Saturday following the workshop at the home of Jamie Lightfoot.

We will explore painting alla prima, talk about shapes, values, and composition, learn expressive brushstrokes, and have fun portraying the cutest animals.

Some experience is recommended, but beginners and first-time oil painters are welcome and encouraged to join!

Students required to bring their own supplies. Supply List

Encaustic Monotype and Mixed Media Workshop

$190

with Dana Harris Seeger

Calendar Jan 25, 2025 at 10 am

Saturday, January 25th, 2025

10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Beginners are welcome in this introductory class taught by Dana Harris Seeger.

The art of encaustic painting is millennia old, but the freshness that can be achieved in this medium is truly contemporary. We will be working with hot bee’s wax, damar resin and pigment on an anodized aluminum plate and transferring those images to paper to create one-of-a-kind encaustic prints.

Encaustic is a non-toxic medium that provides unparalleled luminosity and depth of color. The resulting prints on paper can be layered onto an existing encaustic painting or displayed on their own. We will use semi-transparent Sumi rice paper to print on, as well as Encaustiflex flexible fabric paper and every color imaginable. Experienced encaustic artist and printmaker Dana Harris Seeger will show students the process from start to finish, including how to incorporate mixed media into their prints. Students will be able to create a series of prints to take home.

Students should bring some reference imagery or sketches with them to class.
