This class welcomes both experienced artists and curious beginners (ages 14+) to explore the rich and rewarding world of oil painting.

What to Expect:

Personalized Instruction: Learn at your own pace with guidance from Jamie.

All Supplies Included: Everything you need for your painting journey is provided (canvas, paints, brushes, etc.).

Focus on Fundamentals: New students will begin with a foundational color mixing exercise to understand how colors interact.

Work on Your Own Projects: Explore your own creative vision! Bring your own reference photos or choose from our collection.

Tips for Success:

Plan for Multiple Sessions: Most oil paintings require several sessions to complete.

Image Preparation: In advance, email your reference images to jamie@picketfenceartstudio.com. iPads and laptops are ideal for viewing.

Dress Comfortably: Wear old clothes as oil paints can be a bit messy!

Capture the Charm of Piglets in Watercolor

Join us for a delightful watercolor workshop where you'll learn to paint the endearing charm of piglets.

In this hands-on experience, you'll discover:

  • The magic of watercolor: Explore the techniques of layering, glazing, and creating luminous washes.
  • Capturing the essence of a piglet: Learn to paint soft fur, curly tails, and those adorable snouts.
  • Creating depth and dimension: Master techniques for suggesting form and creating a sense of space on your paper.

All supplies are included, so come prepared to relax, learn, and create a beautiful piglet painting. Feel free to bring your own supplies if you prefer. All levels welcome.

About the Instructor:

Pam Carraway is a watercolor painter and teacher from Edmonds, WA. She loves playing with colors and learning the ins and outs of what can be done with watercolor. Fur, feathers, and faces are her favorite subjects. Pam has been selected for the Edmonds Arts Festival Gallery 2021 - 2023 and was a selected artist in the Edmonds Artwalk February 2023. Pam's artwork can be found at Mystic Art Supply or the Edmonds Summer Market.

This introductory drawing course is designed for those with little to no prior experience.

We’ll focus on building foundational skills such as blocking in shapes, shading and understanding perspective through hands-on experience with various drawing mediums. This will allow you to develop your ability to observe and translate what you see onto paper while fostering your creativity and visual expression.

Oil Painting Workshop with Yelena Lamm - Florals in Oil

Flowers, as artistic subjects, offer infinite variety in form and color, carry deep symbolic meanings, evoke a wide range of emotions, foster a connection to nature, and allow for artistic freedom in terms of interpretation and style.  

Join me for an immersive and vibrant 2-day workshop focused on painting flowers from life. This dynamic course will guide you through the essential techniques of alla-prima oil painting and help you master your approach to composition, color harmonies, and values. You will work with a limited primary palette and can expand this palette to boost your skills in crafting rich, cohesive artwork, explore your creativity, and enhance your artistic abilities.

Some experience is recommended, but beginners and first-time oil painters are welcome and encouraged to join. 

Students required to bring their own supplies.

Yelena Lamm was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and received formal art training from the N. K. Roerich Fine Arts School. Since 1995, she lives in Pittsburgh, PA.

Yelena is painting primarily in oil. She loves to reflect on her subjects’ characters and personalities in her lively and colorful portraits of pets and animals. Yelena recently joined the Society of Animal Artists and was immediately accepted as a signature member.

Yelena’s works were selected for and won awards in juried group exhibitions, including Oil Painters of America (OPA), Society of Animal Artists (SAA), and National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) national shows. She was a finalist in the 15th ARC Salon and a semi-finalist in the 16th ARC Salon. Her list of awards includes the recent Most Original Award of Excellence in OPA 2023 Eastern Regional Exhibition and Outstanding Achievement Animals in AWA 2023 Annual Online Juried Show.

Britain’s most popular magazine for practicing artists, Artists, and Illustrators, featured Yelena’s animal portraits in a 6-page article and on the cover of their June 2023 issue. Yelena’s works are represented by galleries and acquired by collectors in the U.S. and abroad.
