Each monthly course has a general focus that can be deviated from if it is not useful. If you are challenged, select the given exercise; if not, you can choose another area of focus for the day.
Class 1. Value/measuring/color spots
Class 2. Limited palette and interpreting color temperature and saturation.
Class 3. Earth palette and mark-making
Class 4. Putting it together/developing an area of focus (value, color, etc.).
Each of these topics gets fleshed out a bit differently each month depending on class participants and their experience, combined with the given or self-chosen reference. The object or subject of your painting can be anything: portrait, landscape, still life.
I approach painting as a type of note-taking on our visual experience. Each study can be developed into a final work if desired, but I focus on small studies over final works of art for beginners. We discuss the basics of painting and concepts meant to change how we think about what painting is and what we can do with it.

Oil Painting June - Evening, Open Paint
with Jamie Lightfoot
Oil Painting Open Paint for the Month of June
Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
This class is oil painting and drawing lessons for students 14 and over, mixed adults and teens.
If you are a new student, plan on spending your first class getting to know your oil color palette and completing a color wheel.
After the first session, students work on their own pieces at their own pace. Most paintings require a minimum of three classes to complete.
You can work from your photo reference or one of mine. See the BLOG page on the website for helpful tips and reference images.
Please email me a copy of the image you would like to work from, your skill level, and anything in particular you are interested in learning.
An iPad or laptop works best for viewing your images. Printed photos work as well.
Wear old clothes as oil paint stains. You will be added to the student newsletter, so check your junk email if you don't receive it.
All supplies are provided, but please feel free to bring your favorite paintbrushes. We paint on canvas, but Ampersand Boards are available for an additional charge.
