Constructive Figure Drawing: Structure, Light, and Design with Brenno Kenji
with Brenno Kenji
Saturday February 22nd, 9:30am-5pm (with a one hour lunch break)
How do we develop our figure drawings in order to convey the illusion of weight, action, and three-dimensional reality? In this workshop we will build on a dynamic gestural foundation and explore how to construct the figure dimensionally from simple, versatile volumes that will give our drawings presence and structure. We will then study how light reveals form and how each part of the figure flows into the next, guided by the dynamics of action and the orchestration of shape design.
Schedule:
MORNING- 9:30-10am: Overview/Recap of the Stage 1 Figure Lay-In
10-11am: Introduction to Stage 2: thinking volumetrically
11-1pm: drawing from the live model w/ demos and feedback
1-2pm: Lunch break
AFTERNOON- 2-3pm: Introduction to Light Logic & Shape Design
3-5pm live model time with feedback
About Brenno Kenji:
Brenno is a well-regarded instructor with teaching experience spanning various institutions, including Gage Academy in Seattle, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and the ID8 School of Art & Design. Brenno's education includes a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, mentorship with artists like Steve Huston and Sunny Apinchapong-Yang, and training in figure painting, composition, and drawing.
