Encaustic Monotype and Mixed Media Workshop
with Dana Harris Seeger
Saturday, January 25th, 2025
10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Beginners are welcome in this introductory class taught by Dana Harris Seeger.
The art of encaustic painting is millennia old, but the freshness that can be achieved in this medium is truly contemporary. We will be working with hot bee’s wax, damar resin and pigment on an anodized aluminum plate and transferring those images to paper to create one-of-a-kind encaustic prints.
Encaustic is a non-toxic medium that provides unparalleled luminosity and depth of color. The resulting prints on paper can be layered onto an existing encaustic painting or displayed on their own. We will use semi-transparent Sumi rice paper to print on, as well as Encaustiflex flexible fabric paper and every color imaginable. Experienced encaustic artist and printmaker Dana Harris Seeger will show students the process from start to finish, including how to incorporate mixed media into their prints. Students will be able to create a series of prints to take home.
Students should bring some reference imagery or sketches with them to class.
